Your Corporate Artist Blog
Hi, I’m Daryl Jay you can call me Bolthyolk! I’m currently working as a graphic designer slash multimedia artist in a recruitment company here at Makati Philippines. If you feel like you’re an artist and want to make a decent living by performing what you love, you may follow my path or create your own colorful path on how I became a company artist.
Getting a graphic designer title is not hard to attain, if your family is financially stable to enroll you in any university of your choice that offers fine arts or multimedia arts It will be easy to get in, you may even dream of becoming more than a graphic artist, creative fields like getting into animation, 3d artist. FYI -- being graphic artist isn’t easy as well if you want to master it!
Easier said than done, what if you’re like me, that parents can’t support the education and career that we aspire.
In Filipino culture if you’re undecided on which degree you want pursue in college, most likely your destiny will fall in the hands of your Mothers or your Fathers or anyone from the family that is older than you if you’re unlucky your grand grandest mother may decide for your future.
Well that’s what happened to me by that time I can’t do anything than just finishing up any course that I and they may think is the best for me, so I graduated as a Psychology. During the process it was the point in my life I am experiencing what the society call Mid-Life crisis on what will I become in the future I am always thinking ahead of what will going happened to me.
Fast forward, I thought I will learn to love Psychology I even did everything to delve myself into Psychology. Not to mention I passed the board exam and tried to finish my first semester in a grad school mastering in clinical psych.
The start of my Art Career!
Here we go, How I started my art career, getting into it wasn’t easy but if you really want to, you’ll surely can make your way. My very first step is to find a job, after earning a little from how many years I can now enroll a short course in an art school in Quezon City it was CIIT and kudos I landed to an industry that I really love being a Jr. graphic designer.
But that’s not just because of the diploma alone but the interest and discipline to learn on how I can compete in the industry, I need to get through a lot. Means I have collected many Artworks from Volunteerism and Freelancing receiving little payment from it and that serves as my portfolio to enter in an art industry.
If you ask on what tools I have been using from my past and current works, I started on a trial version of Adobe Photoshop, I learned about it and using it on YouTube and lot of tutorials around the web. I am always amazed on how Photoshop can do magic on images from there it took years and lots of practice to get familiarized to the complicated interface of it. I think the key of learning is having even a single goal with the software and with that one goal your curiosity grows as well as your knowledge.
My primary goal here is to share knowledge I have learnt through experience and learn as well from you and from around the web to kept me abreast with the tools and skills.
